How a growth question becomes a practical plan.
Illustrative example—not a client case study. This hypothetical scenario demonstrates our approach. It contains no client results or promised outcomes.
The question
A D2C brand is increasing advertising investment. Revenue is rising, but the founder is concerned that profit is not improving at the same pace.
What we would examine
| Question | Evidence to review | Decision it informs |
|---|---|---|
| Is each order creating enough value? | Product margin, discounts, fulfilment and relevant variable costs | Affordable acquisition cost |
| Which customers are being acquired? | New and returning customer definitions, channel data and attribution limits | Acquisition priorities |
| Are customers returning? | Cohort repeat purchases, timing and lifecycle activity | Retention opportunities |
| Where does the website lose customers? | Funnel behaviour by device and source | Conversion investigations |
| Is the team acting on the same priorities? | Plans, budgets, agency briefs and ownership | Coordination changes |
How we would prioritise
We would first validate the definitions and data quality. Then we would compare opportunities by likely commercial value, confidence in the evidence, effort and dependencies.
For example, a suspected checkout issue should be investigated before treating it as a proven cause. A proposed retention campaign should be assessed against the brand's purchase cycle and customer permissions.
An illustrative 90-day sequence
Days 1–30: Agree the baseline and measures; resolve important reporting gaps; investigate the highest-priority issue.
Days 31–60: Implement the agreed changes and tests with named owners and review dates.
Days 61–90: Assess the evidence, continue effective work and revise the next priorities.
The actual sequence depends on the findings, available resources and business constraints.
What the founder receives
A clear statement of what is known, what needs further investigation and what the team should do next—with responsibilities and measures for the agreed work.
